When I was six years old, I had a kindergarten teacher named Mrs. Shellie. She was a wonderful teacher and very kind—I told you about her last month. Her reaction to a drawing I made at a very young age impacted me immensely.

How do you think fictional characters are born? Where do you think your favorite characters came from? I can tell you, they did not just pop out of your favorite story fully formed.

Once I knew how much I loved to draw, you could find me drawing all day, every day. I have a vivid memory of kindergarten (6 years old) when my teacher (Mrs. Shelly) asked the class to draw a picture of her.

I’m Butch Hartman. I’m just a guy from Michigan who fell in love with cartoons, movies and comic books when I was a kid. At the age of 18, I made my way to Hollywood and dove into the entertainment industry head first.
